Nebraska Student Film Competition

Sponsored by Glowmedia and Clarkson Regional Health Services

WELCOME!

We’re so glad you're here! Thank you for your interest in submitting your script or story idea. This is your chance to share your unique perspective on how smartphones shape the lives of young people today - and maybe even see your idea turned into a short film.

Ever feel like you’re too connected?
Like your online activity determines your productivity, habits, and mood?
Like you’re missing out on real life but can’t find the motivation or ability to disconnect?

This competition invites Nebraska middle and high school students (ages 13–19) to share their experiences and ideas. One winning entry will be developed into a professionally produced short film!

How the Competition Works

From September 1 - 30, Nebraska middle and high school students ages 13 to 19 can submit a short written description of their story idea. Our review team will read every submission and select one winning idea to be developed into a professionally produced short film.

If your idea is chosen, you will:

  • Work with a professional writer to develop your idea into a script

  • Travel to Los Angeles with a parent or guardian to be part of the filming (valued at $4,999)

  • Receive mentorship from filmmakers, writers, and mental health advocates

How to Submit Your Story Idea

Step 1: Submitting a Story Idea

  • Write a short paragraph describing your story

  • Create a list of your main characters (names, ages, quick descriptions)

  • Add a few sentences about the mental health theme (what it is about and why it matters to you)

Step 2: Prepare Your File

  • Put everything into one PDF document

  • Include your full name, age, grade, school, and contact email at the top

  • Save the file as: FirstName_LastName_Idea.pdf

Step 3: Where to Submit
